How it works

Three steps to a warmer home.

You only ever pay the part the grant doesn't cover — and only if you decide to go ahead.

01

Check your eligibility

Answer five quick questions. We match your home and details against the Warmer Kiwi Homes criteria.

02

Free in-home assessment

An EECA-approved installer visits, confirms your subsidy level, and gives you a no-obligation quote.

03

Installed, your share only

Decide to go ahead and pay just the unsubsidised portion. The installer claims the grant directly.

What eligible homeowners pay

Thousands off, claimed at the quote.

For low-income households, the heating grant covers up to 90% of an approved high-wall heat pump — capped at $3,450 including GST. The discount comes off your installer's quote, so you never front the full cost and wait for money back.

Good to know

Common questions.

Is checking really free? +

Yes. Checking your eligibility and the in-home assessment cost nothing. You only pay if you choose to go ahead with an install — and then only the portion the grant doesn't cover.

Who actually qualifies? +

The heating grant is for owner-occupiers whose home was built before 2008, who don't already have a fixed heater in the main living area, and who hold a Community Services Card or SuperGold Combo Card — or live in a lower-income area. Insulation support reaches a wider range of homes. The exact subsidy depends on your address, which the installer confirms.

What if I already have a heat pump? +

If your main living area already has a working fixed heater, the heating grant won't apply — but you may still qualify for insulation support. The assessment will tell you for certain.

I'm renting — can I get one? +

The grant is for homeowners only. But under the Healthy Homes Standards your landlord may be legally required to provide adequate heating. Leave your details and we'll point you and your landlord in the right direction.

Who will contact me? +

An EECA-approved Warmer Kiwi Homes installer in your region will call to arrange your free assessment. You're never locked in until you sign a contract for the work.
